Have you ever heard about the “Theory of Overlapping Interests”?

I’m sure you have, at least of something similar, but never paid heed to it. It’s high time you should know a bit more about the theory.

The name might incline you towards thinking that the “Theory of Overlapping Interests” has been developed by some researcher. But actually, you’ll find no such theory if you search it on the web. It is a result of my own experiences and thoughts.

The word which might hit you before you start reading the story is “INTEREST”.It is what people actually look in every task, no matter how small it is. But what if you like multi-tasking and like doing more than one task at a time. Again what if one task complements the other? Then is it multi-tasking? What I feel is it’s a task of achieving a particular motive through more than one tasks which lead to “OVERLAPPING INTERESTS”.

It might sound a bit confusing but if you think carefully in the second case the motive becomes more significant than each of the individual tasks. Most of the time, people don’t actually get affected by this slight difference but for some like me, yes it does matter.

To prove my point I need to present a possible situation where this theory can be applied. Suppose you are organizing a fest for your college and you need to choose a few coordinators for a particular event, say Dubsmash. You know that there’s a group of students in your college who already work for a company providing similar services. Then why not approach them? They as coordinators for your event will receive benefits from both you and the Dubsmash company as well. In the process, You or your fest gets promoted, the company gets promoted as well as the mediators get promoted. Both You and the company have your own interests but the mediators have a scope for “OVERLAPPING INTERESTS”. This will double the enthusiasm for the task from their side ensuring success for your event or the fest as a whole. This is actually the benefit of applying the theory.

My mom says that if you help people in achieving their aim, knowingly or unknowingly you yourself go a step ahead in achieving yours. The theory may have a professional approach to all the readers out there but analyzing it carefully you’ll know that it’s nothing more than a simple reminder of life.

Help others achieve their dreams and you will achieve yours.
